SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Men’s Cross Country team opened its season Friday afternoon at the Bryant Invitational. Though competing against some tough competition as the only Division III school in the first, including Division I schools Bryant University, The College of the Holy Cross, Navy, Northeastern University, and the University of New Hampshire, the Hawks managed to hold their own, suggesting this will be another great fall for Hawks’ Cross Country.

BRISTOL, R.I. - The 2009 season has come to a close for the Roger Williams University Men’s Cross Country team. The team had another very successful campaign, and was able to capture the team’s ninth consecutive title in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.

CUMBERLAND, Maine – The Roger Williams University Men’s Cross Country team was in action Saturday afternoon at the Division III Regional Qualifier. The team finished in 23rd overall out of 48 teams, with a total team time of 2:19:15.0. The Hawks had all five of their point-earners finish in the top-200 out of the 300 plus runners, led by Mitch Leveille (North Kingstown, R.I.) who finished in 73rd.

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Athletics Department has named Men’s Cross Country runner Mitch Leveille (North Kingstown, R.I.) as the Male Athlete of the Week for his performance over the weekend. Leveille led the Men’s team to its ninth consecutive TCCC title.

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men’s Cross Country Team edged out the second place team from Gordon by six points to earn their ninth consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship with 33 points. Three of the team members placed in the top four runners en route to a victory.

WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Roger Williams University Men’s Cross Country team placed 4th out of 23 teams at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State on Saturday in Westfield, Mass. The team finished with 126 points behind Westfield St., Trinity, and the overall winners, Umass-Dartmouth who finished with a total of 72 points. The team finished with an overall time of 2:17:51.32 and an average time of 27:34.27.

Women's Basketball
BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University sophomore Ryan Weekes (Worcester, Mass.) of the Women’s Basketball team has been named the RWU Female Athlete of the Week for her excellent performance in all three of the team’s games last week. She recorded 29 points and 25 rebounds on the week, including a double-double on Thursday night.
In their first game at Western New England College Weekes recorded 11 points, five rebounds with five steals and four assists. Weeks and the Hawks then hosted UMass-Dartmouth on Thursday night. She contributed to the win with a double-double, ten points and 12 rebounds. Finally, the team closed out the week against Wentworth Institute of Technology with Weeks contributing eight points and eight rebounds towards the team’s effort.
Weeks and the rest of the Women’s Basketball team return to action Tuesday at home in conference play against Gordon College at 6 p.m. prior to heading to New England College over the weekend.

Wrestling
BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University junior Nick Cambi (Cohasset, Mass.) of the Wrestling team has been named the RWU Male Athlete of the Week for his undefeated performance in their tri-meet on Friday, Jan. 15th. He won his first match against Wesleyan University by a final of 3-1 before posting a 6-1 decision over his opponent from Trinity College.
In the team’s first match versus Wesleyan University the Hawks were trailing 12-3 before Cambi and two other Hawks won their matches to tie the score at 12. In the second match against Trinity College his victory by a final of 6-1 cut their opponent’s lead to only one point. The Hawks would later win the matchup.
Cambi and the rest of the Wrestling team will return to the mat in the New England Division III Dual Meet Championships at Springfield College on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m.
