SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women’s Cross Country team kicked off its season Friday afternoon at the Bryant University Invitational. Though no team scores were kept, the women held their own as the only Division III team in a field of Division I teams.

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Roger Williams University Women’s Cross Country has been named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team after compiling a cumulative 3.48 team GPA. For the Hawks, this is their sixth consecutive season achieving the honor.

CUMBERLAND, Maine – The Roger Williams University Women’s Cross Country turned in a total team time of 2:04:16.9, an average time of 24:51.4, and placed 20th out of 47 teams at the Division III Regional Qualifiers hosted by the University of Southern Maine. The team compiled a total of 597 points, led by Liliana Rutler (Wyckoff, N.J.) who finished in 88th overall out of 315 participants.

BRISTOL, R.I. - Senior Emily Tran (Sharon, Mass.) has been named RWU Female Athlete of the Week for her performance at the TCCC Championships this past weekend. Tran led the team to its tenth straight TCCC title as she finished in third place.

Wrestling
BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University junior Nick Cambi (Cohasset, Mass.) of the Wrestling team has been named the RWU Male Athlete of the Week for his undefeated performance in their tri-meet on Friday, Jan. 15th. He won his first match against Wesleyan University by a final of 3-1 before posting a 6-1 decision over his opponent from Trinity College.
In the team’s first match versus Wesleyan University the Hawks were trailing 12-3 before Cambi and two other Hawks won their matches to tie the score at 12. In the second match against Trinity College his victory by a final of 6-1 cut their opponent’s lead to only one point. The Hawks would later win the matchup.
Cambi and the rest of the Wrestling team will return to the mat in the New England Division III Dual Meet Championships at Springfield College on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m.

Women's Basketball
BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University sophomore Ryan Weekes (Worcester, Mass.) of the Women’s Basketball team has been named the RWU Female Athlete of the Week for her excellent performance in all three of the team’s games last week. She recorded 29 points and 25 rebounds on the week, including a double-double on Thursday night.
In their first game at Western New England College Weekes recorded 11 points, five rebounds with five steals and four assists. Weeks and the Hawks then hosted UMass-Dartmouth on Thursday night. She contributed to the win with a double-double, ten points and 12 rebounds. Finally, the team closed out the week against Wentworth Institute of Technology with Weeks contributing eight points and eight rebounds towards the team’s effort.
Weeks and the rest of the Women’s Basketball team return to action Tuesday at home in conference play against Gordon College at 6 p.m. prior to heading to New England College over the weekend.
