Further records broken in Day 3 of Women's NEISDA Championships

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.- Several new team records and a respectable nine top-15 finishes in eight events helped the Roger Williams Women's Swimming & Diving team leave their mark on the third day of NEISDA Championships.  The Hawks moved up in the team standings to finish the meet in eighth place.

Senior Libby Renner (Plainville, Mass.) started out the day's preliminaries with a record-setting performance in the 100 yard freestyle.  Her time of 58.27 bested Erin Leonhardt's previous record of 58.75.  In the event's finals held later in the day, Renner recorded a time of 58.29, good for 11th place.

Junior Jill Mackey (Redding, Conn.) continued her quest to rewrite the Hawks' records with her time of 1:08.87 in the 100 yard individual medley, which put her in 14th place for the event.  The previous record set by Jenny Dill had stood at 1:09.25.

The third record to fall on the day was set by the 400 freestyle relay team of Casey Meagher (Billerica, Mass.), Brigid Houlihan (Nahant, Mass.), Renner, and Shari Rothgeb (Denver, Colo.)  The team recorded a time of 3:54.02, earning them seventh place in the event and besting the former record of 3:55.86.

Two Hawks recorded top-ten individual performances.  Houlihan swam the 1650 yard freestyle in 19:02.47, which put her in sixth place.  Diver Cara Naylor (Windsor, Conn.) competed in the 3 Meter event, recording a score of 274.25.

Other Roger Williams swimmers competing in the day's finals included senior Meghan McGrath (Manalapan, N.J.), who took 14th place in the 50 yard backstroke in 31.84, and freshman Lauren Gosnell (Norwell, Mass.), who took 16th in the same event with a time of 32.02.  Rothgeb also swam the 1650 yard freestyle, taking 13th place with a time of 19:52.39.  Freshman Caitlin O'Connor (Wallingford, Conn.) placed 13th in the 200 yard butterfly, touching the wall in 2:24.32.  Emily Hull also earned team points with her 15th place finish in the 200 yard breastroke, where she recorded a time of 2:45.59.
