SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – After the second day of the ICSA/Gill Coed Dinghy National Championships, the Roger Williams University Sailing team remains in fifth place after totaling a score of 240.
Rain was in the forecast for the second day of the ICSA/Gill Coed Dinghy Nationals., but by noon the weather had cleared up with sunshine and winds ranging between 15-20 knots. Six races were completed in each division. The day started with a modest 8-10 knots of wind and an ebb tide which produced lumpy chop. As the skies cleared, the breeze made its way to the left and ramped from 12-20 knots within minutes. The flood tide rampaged down the course suddenly for the last B set of the day.
Matthew Duggan (Sandwich, Mass.), Jonathan Enright (Bristol, R.I.), Maria Petrillo (Bristol, R.I.), Kelly Gorman (Marblehead, Mass.), and Sarah Mease (Ocea Gate, N.J.) all saw action on the water in A Division on the second day. Duggan and Petrillo powered the Hawks to a second –place finish in the second race of the day, while Enright and Gorman managed an eighth-place finish in the second-to-last race. In the end, the Hawks hung on for 16th place in A Division.
In B Division, Cy Thompson (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands) and Kaytlin Hall (Los Angeles, Calif.) maintained their pace, tallying 44 points to hold on for fourth place. The two sailors ran off fourth-place finishes in the first and last races of the day and notched a win in the fourth race.
St. Mary's College continues to lead the competition with 130 points, but had its 27-point advantage cut to seven with Yale University trailing the Seahawks in second place.
The schedule has been amended to start racing an hour later on Wednesday, with the first warning at 2:00 p.m. EST. Four races in each division will complete the rotation.
