BRISTOL, R.I.  – The Men's Tennis team defeated Wesleyan University by a final score of 5-4 this afternoon. On this chilly and windy day, the Hawks were able to sweep the doubles matches and come out with two singles wins to improve their record to 1-2. Wesleyan lost their first match of the year, dropping their record to 3-1.

Roger Williams had an excellent showing in their doubles matches, led by senior Dan Kleitz (Wethersfield, Conn.) and junior Kevin Erikson (Tolland, Conn.), who picked up an 8-3 win at number one doubles. Jeff DeNunzio (Barrington, R.I.) and Jason Pacino (North Reading, Mass.) got the victory at number two doubles, by a final of 8-5. In the number three doubles match, Spencer Withington (Plymouth, Mass.) and Nicholas Hawvermale (Bethlehem, Conn.) combined to pick up an 8-3 victory.

Wesleyan fought back in singles competition, winning four out of the six matches, coming up just short of getting the win. They were led by Ravy Uong (Lowell, Mass.) at the number one singles, who picked up a 6-1, 6-7 (3), 6-1 victory. The Cardinals also won at second, third and fourth singles, carried by Alex Hirsch (Amherst, Mass.) who pulled away with a 6-3, 6-4 win, Donald Kleckner (Alpharetta, Ga.), who earned a 6-3, 6-2 win, and Michael Glen (Weston, Mass.) who won 7-5, 6-2. The Hawks put the match away with wins at the fifth and sixth singles spots from Spencer Withington 6-2, 6-2, and Taylor Webster (Bristol, Conn.) 6-1, 7-5.

Roger Williams is in action next on October 9th when they head to the Stonehill College Invitational in Easton, Massachusetts while Wesleyan will face the US Coast Guard Academy this Thursday on their home courts.
