Men’s Cross Country takes third at Pop Crowell

WENHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Cross Country came away with a third-place finish Saturday afternoon at the Pop Crowell Invitation, hosted by Gordon College, improving upon their fourth-place finish last year.

John Ferguson (Bethel, Conn.) had his best race of the year with his ninth-place finish in a solid field, finishing with a time of 27:18.

Jack Dunleavy (Orange, N.J.) finished next for the Hawks, coming in 17th with a time of 27:51.

"He ran a patient, smart race," said Head Coach Sean Livingston. "He moved up into the top 20 after being in about 50th place at the mile. This was his first collegiate 5-mile race and he's got more in him."

Kevin Terbush (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and Sean Doyle (Guilderland, N.Y.) crossed next for the Hawks, finishing in 23rd and 27th place with respective times of 28:04 and 28:20. Co-captains Steven Carnevale (Easton, Mass.) and Jeff Pini (Wellesley, Mass.) improved their placement from last year, coming in respectively at 43rd (28:45) and 49th place (29:07).

Matt Carney (Canton, Mass.) earned the final points for the Hawks with his 61st-place finish, coming in at a time of 29:43.

"We were first among all the conference teams, but UNE wasn't that far behind," said Livingston. "It was a good gauge as far as where we stand. Now we have to put our heads down and get back to work on Monday."

The Hawks will next compete at the Westfield State College Invitational next Saturday.
