Men’s Tennis downed by Wesleyan

Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team was defeated on Sunday to Wesleyan University 9-0.  The loss brings the Hawks to a record of 0-2, while the Cardinals improve to 4-1.

In the #1 singles match, Jeff Legunn (Waccabuc, N.Y.) from Wesleyan defeated senior Jeff DeNunzio (Barrington, R.I.) with scores of 6-2, 6-1.  In the second slot, the Cardinals again saw victory as Stephen Monk (New York, N.Y.) came out on top over Kevin Erikson (Tolland, Conn.) 6-0 and 6-2. Taylor Webster (Bristol, Conn.) saw an extremely close match-up as the #5 single, eventually losing to Wesleyan's Alex Hirsch (Amherst, Mass.) in a super tie-breaker (5-7, 7-6, 10-5).

The Cardinals swept the doubles matches as well, with Legunn and Donald Kleckner (Alpharetta, Ga.) leading the team in the #1 slot.  The combination of DeNunzio and Erikson wasn't strong enough to defeat the top competitors from Wesleyan.  Monk and Ben Hudson (Bangkok, Thailand) also earned a victory in the doubles competition as the #2 contestants.

The Hawks return to the court on Tuesday, October 5th against Babson College at 3:30 p.m. on the RWU campus.
