Equestrian finishes as runner-up at Zone 1 Region 1 Show

HEBRON, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Equestrian team notched a second-place finish this past weekend at the Zone 1 Region 1 Show, marking the second straight week that the Hawks have finished as runners-up.

Lyndsey Burns (Newtown, Conn.) was tied with three other riders from various schools for High Point Rider of the Day. She had a remarkable day with a win at Open Fences and a runner-up finish at Open Flat. She continues to lead the region in the Cacchione Cup race with 59 points, 16 points ahead of the competition.

Shelby Dumond (Colchester, Conn.) won her division at Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter, pointing out of the division and into Novice. With the win, she has now qualified for Regionals.

Julia Doyle earned a win at Beginning Walk-Trot-Canter, also pointing out of the division and moving up to Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter.

Macey Farnsworth (New Milford, Conn.) picked up a win for the Hawks at Walk-Trot, while Chelsea Francis (Bristol, R.I.) won her division at Intermediate Flat. The Hawks also earned a slew of runner-up finishes, including Chelsea Weiner at Open Flat, Rachael Asadorian (East Greenwich, R.I.) at Intermediate Flat, Stefania DelPezzo (Yorktown Height, N.Y.) and Jessica Wilson (Wayland, Mass.) at Advanced Walk-Trot Canter, Lenny Carlucci (Fairfield, Conn.) at Beginner Walk-Trot-Canter, and Elizabeth Groover (Barrington, N.H.) at Walk-Trot.

Roger Williams will participate in the University of Rhode Island Show this Saturday at the Mystic Valley Hunt Club.

4th Place: University of Rhode Island - 25 points

5th Place: University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth - 18 points
