Equestrian wraps up fall with fourth place at Johnson & Wales

REHOBOTH, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Equestrian concluded the fall portion of the 2011-12 season this past weekend with a fourth-place finish at the Johnson & Wales University Show.

The Hawks netted a pair of wins on the day, with Erin DeMarco (Florence, Vt.) and Hannah Elias (West Tisbury, Mass.) respectively earning victories at Novice Fences and Novice Flat. In addition, Lyndsey Burns (Newtown, Conn.) and Chelsea Weiner (Bristol, R.I.) finished as runners-up at Open Fences.

Burns also took third place at Open Flat. She continues to hold the lead for the Cacchione Cup with 77 points, leading Katie Strandburg of Johnson & Wales University by 17 points.

At Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter, Charnele Bourque (Wakefield, R.I.), finished at third place, pointing into Novice and qualifying for Regionals in the process.

Maddie Stein (Easton, Conn.) and Rachael Asadorian (East Greenwich, R.I.) each finished third at Intermediate Flat, with Asadorian also taking third at Intermediate Fences.

With the conclusion of the fall season, Roger Williams currently holds a tie for third place in the region with Becker College with 213 points, six points behind second-place University of Rhode Island and 37 behind first-place Brown University.

The Hawks will resume the spring season on February 25 at the University of Rhode Island Show at the Mystic Valley Hunt Club.
