CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Sailing team finished third at the Fowle Trophy over the weekend, while taking the top spot in the Southern 5, and Second at the Azalea Bowl and Mystic Lake Team Race.
At the Fowle Trophy, Roger Williams compiled a 15-8 record, as
Carlos Bermudez de Castro,
Kyle Pfrang, and
Mathieu Dale skippered the Hawks with
Carly Kiss,
Jed Lory,
Claire Buckley, and
Addyson Fisher as the crews.
Yale took the top spot in the conference championship regatta, going 20-3, with Harvard posting a 19-4 record. In the opening round robin, the Hawks went 8-3, falling to Brown, Harvard, and Yale. In seven of their eight wins, the Hawks posted a 1-2 finish to secure the win, while going 2-3-4 against URI for their win.
In the eight-team round robin, the Hawks went 5-2 with their only losses coming to Harvard and Yale. The Hawks picked up 1-2 finishes in three of their five wins, while securing a top finish over MIT.
The top six round robin saw the Hawks go 2-3, falling to Yale, Boston College, and Dartmouth.
On Saturday at the Southern 5, Roger Williams took the top spot, compiling 41 points to finish two points ahead of URI with 43 total points. The Division A boat of
Jack Crager and
Caroline Felser finished second overall in total points behind only the Division B boat from URI. The Hawks Division B boat finished fourth overall with
Edward Herman and
Demetry Spinola compiling 26 total points through 5 races.
On Sunday, the Hawks also finished atop the standings, tallying 15 total points. Herman and Demerty Spinola came out on top with 7 points, sailing the Hawks Division B boat, while Crager and Felser tallied eight points to finish second overall, sailing the RWU Division A boat.
At the Azalea Bowl hosted by North Carolina State and UNC Wilmington, the Hawks placed second in the two-division regatta, finishing behind only Merchant Marine. In Division A,
Tristan McDonald and
Jack Gondoly compiled 31 points as they sailed to four top-three finishes in the 19-team regatta. In Division B,
Jakub Fuja and
Dominique Spinola totaled 11 points, with five race wins with a second place finish and fourth place finish.
At the Mystic Lake Team Race, the Hawks went 7-1, while being skippered by
Drew Mastovsky,
Jack Roman, and
Connor McHugh and crews
Ruby Hope, Carter Sheehan, and
Dawson Chambers-Tartaglino. The lone loss came to Boston College who went unbeaten on the regatta, without racing two teams, and the Hawks were unable to complete their race against Boston University.
At the Yale Women's Team Race had a 4-3 record, as
Lucy Meagher,
Tavia Smith, and
Katie McGagh were skippers, with
Maren Matthews,
Jancy Grayson, and
Elyssa Franklin. The Hawks losses came to Brown, Harvard, and Yale, while winning a 1-2-3 race against Bowdoin. In the sail off for a spot in the final four, the Hawks fell to Dartmouth.
