Conduct of the New England Swimming & Diving Championships

QUALIFYING PROCEDURES
  • A student athlete must qualify with an “A” time in at least one event. They must meet a “B” time or better for any other entry. This time must have been achieved in a competition held during the 2007-2008 season. If only one “A” cut has been made, this event MUST be swum in the meet.
  • Relay and event lead off swims are acceptable as entry times; relay splits are not. 
  • Qualifying times must have been made available during the season to opponents via email, mail or web based meet results.
ENTRIES
  • Electronic (Hy-tek) entries are required. These must be emailed to jbenkerobrien@rwu.edu and must be received by midnight, Monday, February 18th
  • A check for entry fees must be received by Thursday night coaches meeting.
    • 1650 Freestyle swimmers must enter the event using their best 1,000 yd freestyle time for the 2007-08 season.
    • Diving- place score in the appropriate space for diving entries. Diving sheets proving qualification must be submitted with the entry form. Scores must be achieved in separate meets. These must be faxed to Julie O’Brien at 401-254-3535 or mailed to Julie O’Brien c/o Campus Recreation  Center, 1 Old Ferry Road, Bristol RI 02809
    • Diving sheets must be dropped with scratches at the scratch deadlines the night before each diving event. This is so dd’s can be checked and sheets entered into edive program.
    • Relays-Place your seasonal best time in the appropriate entry space. Each team is allowed one “B’ relay in the 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle Relays. The “B” relays are non-scoring and will be swum together.
    • 800 Freestyle Relay-entry time may consist of an aggregate total of four swimmers entered.

SQUAD SIZE

  • Each team is allowed a maximum number of contestants not to exceed 18: divers counting as 1/3. If an athlete competes as a swimmer/diver, she will count as one individual towards the team total.
    • Each athlete may compete in a total of seven events, of which no more than three may be individual events.
    • Each student athlete may be entered in up to five events on the entry form. Any additional entries will cost $5.00 per event.

SCRATCH DEADLINES

  • The scratch box will be located at the administrative desk on the pool deck.
    • For Friday’s events:               6pm Thursday
    • For Saturday’s events:           4:30pm Friday
    • For Sunday’s events:             4:30pm Saturday            
  • Scratches can be emailed to jbenkerobrien@rwu.edu before the deadline.

DISTANCE EVENTS

  • For the 1000 and 1650 freestyle events: The events will be swum as timed finals and will be swum fastest to slowest heats. The fastest heat of the 1650 will be swum at the beginning of finals on Sunday. All heats of the 1000 will run in the morning session as timed finals. All distance swimmers must provide at least 2 timers with watches and one lap counter.
