The loss marked the first time the Women’s Rugby Club had lost to Coast Guard since the club’s inception in ’06. With five rookies starting for the Hawks, Roger Williams was defeated soundly, losing to Coast Guard in nearly every phase of the game.

Athletes of the Week

Women's Basketball
BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University sophomore Ryan Weekes (Worcester, Mass.) of the Women’s Basketball team has been named the RWU Female Athlete of the Week for her excellent performance in all three of the team’s games last week. She recorded 29 points and 25 rebounds on the week, including a double-double on Thursday night.
In their first game at Western New England College Weekes recorded 11 points, five rebounds with five steals and four assists. Weeks and the Hawks then hosted UMass-Dartmouth on Thursday night. She contributed to the win with a double-double, ten points and 12 rebounds. Finally, the team closed out the week against Wentworth Institute of Technology with Weeks contributing eight points and eight rebounds towards the team’s effort.
Weeks and the rest of the Women’s Basketball team return to action Tuesday at home in conference play against Gordon College at 6 p.m. prior to heading to New England College over the weekend.

Wrestling
BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University junior Nick Cambi (Cohasset, Mass.) of the Wrestling team has been named the RWU Male Athlete of the Week for his undefeated performance in their tri-meet on Friday, Jan. 15th. He won his first match against Wesleyan University by a final of 3-1 before posting a 6-1 decision over his opponent from Trinity College.
In the team’s first match versus Wesleyan University the Hawks were trailing 12-3 before Cambi and two other Hawks won their matches to tie the score at 12. In the second match against Trinity College his victory by a final of 6-1 cut their opponent’s lead to only one point. The Hawks would later win the matchup.
Cambi and the rest of the Wrestling team will return to the mat in the New England Division III Dual Meet Championships at Springfield College on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m.
