BOSTON, Mass. - The Roger Williams Women's Rugby Club defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday, October 4 by a 46-0 score. The win extends their record to 2-0, following the defeat of Plymouth State, 20-5, on September 21st.
Moving up to Division 3 after winning the D4 National Championship in '07, the Hawks have not slowed down, scoring eight tries and adding three conversions against Wentworth. Captains Liz Morgan and Alison Littleton each tallied two scores, and tries were also added by Christine Nelson, Brittany Gallin, Stephanie Watson, and freshman Emily Holland. RWU's powerful scrums, led by Nelson, Celeste Bessey, Devon Dzicek, and Sam Hamilton, won consistent possession; the backs took that possession and ran with it. The relentless tackling and rucking by forwards Littleton, Erin O'Connell, and freshman Shelby Snyder kept Wentworth scoreless all afternoon. Credit also goes to Courtney Cooney and Christine Nelson for passes that assisted on scores.
The Hawks' next game will be at Wheaton College on Saturday, October 11th at 11:00 a.m.
