HARTFORD, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Women's Rugby Team traveled to Hartford Conn. over the weekend to face off against Trinity College. The Lady Ruggers concluded their regular season dominating Trinity College by a score of 63-0.
Prop Christine Nelson (Succasunna, N.J.) got the scoring started five minutes into the match with a bruising run into the end zone, and the Lady Hawks poured it on until late in the second half. Rookie sensation Liz Futoma (Portsmouth, R.I.) led all scorers with three tries from the wing position; center Brittany Gallin (Glen Rock, N.J.) notched two tries, and single tries were scored by Captain Alison Littleton (Woburn, Mass.), Prop Randi Featherstone, second row Chelsea Phelps (Attleboro, Mass.), center Brittany Vail (Leicester, Mass.), and winger Hayley Wickstrom (Phoenixville, Pa.). Number eight Jenny Schermerhorn (Andover, N.H.) kicked three conversions for an additional six points.
The win gives RWU a record of 3-2, and assures them a spot in the Plate championship. The Women's Rugby team will host Babson this weekend in the opening round of the playoffs.
