BRISTOL, R.I. – On Sunday the Roger Williams University Men's and Women's Cross Country teams helped in putting on the second annual Brandon Motta 5k Road Race held at Colt State Park. Thirty-Five athletes volunteered at the event which is held to benefit the seven year old boy from Riverside, R.I. who has an undiagnosed neuromuscular disorder. Proceeds from the event are used to help with medical bills and his day to day care.
Alex Parulis, the Hawks' assistant coach, and four-time all conference runner during his days here, was the overall winner of the event. He was awarded a prize of $100 for his efforts, which he graciously gave back to the family.
Even though the weather did not cooperate and the conditions were quite poor, the event was a complete success. Both of the Men's and Women's Cross Country teams plan on participating in the event again next year.
