NEWPORT, R.I. - Miscues helped Salve Regina University give the Roger Williams University Men's Rugby team its first loss of the season, defeating the Hawks 10-3. In a game that the men's rugby team had every opportunity to win Salve Regina walks away with a 10-3 victory.
The 1:00 pm kickoff was marred by poor weather conditions with cold temperatures, heavy rain, and high winds. The Hawks spent the majority of the first half in the Salve Regina half but were only able to put three points on the board. Multiple penalties and turnovers in contact situations prevented the Hawks from capitalizing on great field position. For the second week in a row, a poorly fielded kick provided the opposition with a scoring opportunity. Salve Regina capitalized on the opportunity, scoring in the corner and bringing the score to 5-3 at the half.
The second half was a mirror image of the first with turnovers in the Seahawk half ending scoring drives in their tracks. Salve Regina was able to put another five points on the board after a missed kick by Roger Williams, ending the game with a 10-3 victory over RWU.
Roger Williams will host Bryant University Saturday at 10:00 a.m.
