BRISTOL, R.I. - The Student Athlete Advisory Committee, better known as SAAC, hosted a “Support Haiti” event on January 28th during the Men's and Women's Basketball games. Members of SAAC brought baked goods for those in attendance. Fans were encouraged to donate throughout the evening. Altogether, the fundraiser brought in $750.
Leah Beidler, a 2004 graduate of the University and former member of the Women's Soccer team, started a soccer camp in Passe Cataboise, Haiti in the summer of 2008 to help the impoverished youth of the country. Leah plans to head back to Haiti on February 25th in support of the relief effort.
“My heart was overwhelmed with joy as I saw RWU pour on the country of Haiti with their concerns, donations, and thoughts,” Beidler said. “I can speak for Haiti's people, Thank you for touching our hearts.”
The Roger Williams community was able to ask Beidler questions about Haiti and the relief effort. It was a great cause, and a wonderful opportunity for RWU to show their support.
