Women’s Track & Field finishes fourth at Conn College

NEW LONDON, Conn.A series of broken school records helped vault the Roger Williams University Women's Track & Field team to a fourth place finish Saturday afternoon at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College.

Sophomore Katelyn Kotfila (Falmouth, Mass.) had a big day for the Hawks winning, the Javelin by nearly fifteen feet and scoring 10 points in the process.  Her throw of 126'0”, a twelve-foot personal best, qualified her for the ECAC Championship in May and was only 1'11” shy of provisionally qualifying her for the NCAA National Championship.  The toss also broke her own school record of 114'0” set back in March.  Kotfila is now the 3rd ranked women's javelin thrower in New England.  Kotfila also added to her point total for the day by placing 7th in the hammer, good for two more points.

“Katie's just getting revved up at this point”, said Throws Coach Tom Conley.  “She's got a lot more in the tank and she has the potential to be one of the top Division III javelin throwers in the nation.”

In the 10K run, freshman Liliana Rutler (Wyckoff, N.J.) broke the school record in the by over a full second with a time of 40:12.63, finishing second. In the process, she qualified for both the New England & ECAC Championships. Her time currently has her ranked 9th in New England.

“She had the race of the day, running the 10K for the first time in her career and executing a near-perfect race plan,” said Head Coach Sean Livingston. “She has the ability to do some great things during her career and I was impressed with her effort.”

In addition, the 4x800 relay team of Alexandra Honkala (South Royalton, Vt.), Lauren Ashby (Manchester, N.H.), Katie O'Koren (Franklin, Mass.), and Kaitlin Crowley (Beverly, Mass.) crushed the school record by over 25 seconds, taking second place with a time of 10:38.13.
