Thompson and Stannard named ICSA All-Americans

BRISTOL, R.I.After a successful 2009-10 season, Cy Thompson (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands) and Kelly Stannard (Salem, Mass.) have been honored by the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) for their efforts as 2009-10 ICSA All-Americans.

“Being named to the All-America List is a huge accomplishment for both Cy and Kelly and is a testament to their skill and results,” said Head Coach Amanda Callahan. “When they were on it was really fun to watch as a coach. It's great that they'll both be back next year and will continue to work as a team. The sky is the limit for them!”

The duo spent the year as the Hawks' primary A Division squad, including representing Roger Williams this past year at the ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championships. Some of their highlights include winning A Division at the Navy Fall, Schell Trophy, and at the ICSA Semifinals. They were also named NEISA Sailors of the Week in November after their win at the Schell.

For Thompson, this is his second straight season as an ICSA All-American Skipper. He persevered with a strong spring season, finishing sixth or better in eight of nine regattas raced in the season. In singlehanded racing, Thompson had another successful season, finishing third at the New England Men's Singlehanded Championships, followed by a fifth-place result at the ICSA Singlehanded National Championships.

Stannard receives recognition as All-American Crew for the first time in her collegiate career. In addition, Stannard was only one of four sophomores in the nation to receive All-American Crew honors. Prior to making the shift to A Division with Thompson, Stannard pulled off a pair of wins at B Division at the Hood Trophy and Moody Trophy.
