BRISTOL, R.I. - RWU soccer senior captain Justin Plourde (Concord, N.H.) earned Roger Williams Male Athlete of the Week for his excellent defensive skills in the Hawk’s first three games of the season.  Plourde was also named Defensive MVP at the Turfer Classic Championship on September 6, 2009.

In the season opener on Tuesday, Plourde’s outstanding defense aided the Hawks in their 1-0 victory over Babson College. Plourde also contributed offensively earning an assist on the game’s lone goal.

In the Hawk’s first game of the weekend tournament, Plourde continued his strong defensive play and also assisted freshman Billy Kissane (Glastonbury, Conn.), with a long pass just outside of the box for the Hawk’s only goal in the first half against Fitchburg State College. The Hawk’s went on to win the game 4-0.

In Saturday’s championship game, Plourde’s defense helped the team to a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation before Plymouth State scored an overtime goal for the win.

The Hawks are on their home turf tomorrow against Johnson and Wales University at 4p.m.
