BRISTOL, R.I. – RWU freshman midfielder Andres Daza (Farmington, Conn.) of the Hawks men’s Soccer Team gathered both The Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week Award and the RWU Male Athlete of the Week Award after his strong play last week.

Daza and the Hawks met Gordon College Wednesday afternoon in Wenham, Mass., in a game that was tight throughout. After getting outshot 10-5 in the first half, RWU responded as Daza took a pass just outside the middle of the box and fired home the game-winning goal with just 19:34 remaining in regulation.

The goal was his second of the season, giving him four points in 15 games played. The goal improved RWU to 12-3 overall and 8-1 in the TCCC before a tough overtime loss to Western New England College Saturday snapped the Hawks’ nine-game winning streak.

Daza and the team return to action Tuesday in Biddeford, Maine, facing the University of New England under the lights in a 6:30 p.m. start.
