BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University freshman Alexandria Lanieri (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) of the Women’s Basketball team has been named the RWU Women’s Athlete of the Week for her strong performances in both of the team’s games in the previous week. On the week she posted two consecutive double-doubles versus Rhode Island College and Nichols College.
On Wednesday verses RIC Lanieri posted her first double-double of the week and fifth of the season when she had ten points with 11 boards. She was 3-8 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the free throw line. In the second game versus Nichols College she put up another double-double with 16 points and a game-high 18 rebounds. Lanieri was 4-9 from the field and sunk eight of ten free throw opportunities in 34 minutes of play. On the season she is leading the team with an average of 12.9 points per game with an average of 12.2 rebounds per game.
The Women’s Team starts off the week on Tuesday night at Western New England College before coming home to host the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth on Thursday night and Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday.
