BRISTOL RI—Roger Williams University Women’s Basketball team member #Alexandria Lanieri# (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) was named RWU Female Athlete of the Week after being named to the All-TCCC third team this past week. She also posted a strong performance in the TCCC quarterfinal against The University of New England.
Lanieri was the only representative from RWU chosen to the elite, 15-player All-TCCC Women’s Basketball Team. As a freshman, she started in all 24 games during the regular season, leading the team in a number of categories including scoring (13.4 ppg), rebounding (9.9 rpg), double-doubles (11), and field goal percentage (.482). Lanieri also earned TCCC Rookie of the Week twice throughout the 2009-2010 season.
In Wednesday’s playoff game, Lanieri posted an impressive 20 points and six rebounds.
Unfortunately, however, her 60% field goal percentage wasn’t enough to help RWU defeat the top ranked Nor’easters who went on to win the TCCC Championship.
Lanieri and the rest of the Women’s Basketball Team completed their season this past week after reaching the TCCC playoffs. The Hawks finished 8th in the conference with a record of 5-8.
