BRISTOL, R.I. – Baseball senior co-captain Ryan MacCarthy (Middleton, Mass.) was named RWU Male Athlete of the Week following an impressive showing in the Hawks’ first two games last week in Orlando, Fla.

In the team’s season-opener, MacCarthy scored the game-winning run in the ninth inning to defeat Babson, 9-8, Saturday afternoon. He was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with a double, two runs and an RBI while starting at third.

Sunday afternoon the Hawks faced a strong Amherst College, falling 17-5. MacCarthy, the starting catcher, was 1-for3 at the plate, including a home run and two RBI.

MacCarthy and the Hawks continue their competition in the RussMatt Baseball Invitational in Florida with six more games this week before returning home for their home-opener against Nichols College, Tuesday, March 23.
