BRISTOL, R.I.- After a phenomenal performance at this past weekend’s conference invitational, sophomore Chris Andersen (Shepleigh, Maine) has been selected Roger Williams’ Male Athlete of the Week. Andersen was the Hawks’ standout, winning three individual events and also swimming legs of two winning relays.
Andersen, a breaststroke specialist, was the top swimmer in both the 100 yard breast with a time of 1:03.61 and the 200 yard breast, clocking in at 2:23.67. He also had the best time in the 200 IM, finishing in 2:13.12. Andersen is currently the Roger Williams record holder in both the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke.
Andersen’s performance was also key for the Hawks in both the 200 and 400 yard medley relays. The team of Dale Dubinsky (Plantsville, Conn.), Andrew Hedden (Warwick, R.I.), John Curtis (Watertown, Conn.) and Andersen finished the 200 in 1:45.87. Joining Andersen on the 400 medley team were, Dubinsky, Hedden, and senior Jonathan Plummer (Biddeford, Maine).
Despite a busy academic schedule as an Architecture major, “Chris always comes to practice ready to give 100 percent,” said Assistant Coach Michelle Kellerman.
The Hawks were the clear victors in the invitational, taking first place with 806.5 points, far ahead of runner-up Colby-Sawyer College (433).
While the TCCC Invitational was the final swim meet of the fall semester, the Hawks will compete again in January, traveling to New Hampshire on the 8th to take on Colby-Sawyer in a dual meet.
