BRISTOL, R.I.—Roger Williams University wrestling sophomore Philip Ernst (Succasunna, N.J.) was named Pilgrim League Wrestler of the Week and RWU Male Athlete of the Week for his victory in the 184 lb. weight class at the Doug Parker Invitational Tournament hosted by Springfield College Saturday.

Ernst posted a perfect 4-0 record on the day, becoming the fifth RWU champion all time in the event and the first since 2005.  In his first two matches, Ernst defeated his opponents by scores of 17-1 and 8-2. For the semifinal faceoff, he pinned Thomas Valley of Bridgewater State College in 6:58.  In the championship match, Ernst defeated SUNY-Brockport’s Luke Pariso, who was formerly ranked 8th in the country, by injury default.

With Ernst’s impressive performance, the Hawks secured fourth place at the tournament with 78.5 total points. The RWU Wrestling team hits the mat next on Saturday, Dec. 4^th when they host Johnson & Wales University at 6 p.m. during Coke Hawk Pride Day.
