BRISTOL, R.I. - Freshman Kristen Grandonico (Portland, Maine) was named RWU Female Athlete of the Week after her strong performance on Saturday aiding the Hawks in their sixth-straight TCCC title.
Grandonico teamed up with #Sarah Mamula# (Madison, Conn.) #Erin Carlson# (Watertown, Conn.) and #Melly Marrington# (Farmington, Conn.) to set a new school record in the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay recording a time of 1:45.07. In the 50 Yard Freestyle Grandonico placed second, just .45 seconds shy of first place with a time of 26.08.
Later in the day, Grandonico and Marrington paired up with #Ashley Kichline# (Souderton, Pa.) and #Caitlin O'Connor# (Wallingford, Conn.) to earn first place in the 400 Yard Medley Relay - a full 10 seconds ahead of second place with a time of 4:20.07. In the 200 Yard Medley she and her teammates again posted a first place finish as the only team to finish under two minutes at 1:57.97.
Grandonico continued her strong day in the 100 Yard Breaststroke where she took first place, touching the wall at 1:13.06.
The TCCC Invitational marked the last meet of the fall semester for the Hawks. They will resume competition following winter break in January.
