BRISTOL, R.I. – Freshman swimmer Kristen Grandonico (Portland, Maine) earned RWU Female Athlete of the Week after a strong week in the pool helped the Hawks to a 1-1 record, including a win over TCCC opponent Gordon College.

Friday night the team hosted The Fighting Scots of Gordon with Grandonico earning first place in the 50-yard Freestyle with a time of 26.08 – seven seconds ahead of any competitor. She also posted the fastest time in both the 100-yard and 500-yard Freestyle, finishing at 59.22 and 5:42.75, respectively. Her 400-yard Freestyle relay team also beat all competitors with a time of 4:07.54.

Saturday the team traveled to Eastern Connecticut State University where Grandonico helped her team to a victory in the day’s first event, posting a time of 1:58.07 in the 200-yard Medley Relay. In the 200-yard Breaststroke she touched the wall nearly eight seconds before any other swimmers, finishing with a time of 2:36.42 – just .33 shy of an RWU record. She also dominated the 100-yard Breaststroke, taking first by more than three seconds.

Grandonico and the Hawks return to action Friday when they travel to Norton, Mass., for the Wheaton College Invitational beginning at 5 p.m.
