BRISTOL, R.I. - Sophomore swimmer Phillip Jacques (Durham, Maine) earned RWU Male Athlete of the Week after his record-breaking performance in the pool last week, helping the team to a 1-1 record while establishing a school record in both the 200-yard Individual Medley and the 400-yard Individual Medley.

Tuesday against Connecticut College, Jacques touched the wall with a time of 2:01:11 in the 200-yard IM to set the record, surpassing the previous record by more than two seconds. He also registered strong second-place times in both the 100-yard Backstroke and the 200-yard Backstroke.

Against Gordon College on Friday, Jacques set his second record of the week in the 400 IM, posting a time of 4:27.16 – just .27 seconds faster than senior Kevin Danaher’s (Watertown, Conn.) previous record. Earlier in the evening Jacques recorded 11 points for the Hawks with his first-place finish in the 200-yard Freestyle with a time of 1:53.51. He also posted the fastest time in the 400-yard IM, finishing at 4:27.16.

Jacques and the RWU Men’s Swimming and Diving team travel to Norton, Mass., Friday for the Wheaton College Invitational beginning at 5 p.m.
