BRISTOL, R.I.- RWU junior Tucker Bashaw (Williston, Vt.) was named RWU Male Athlete of the Week after averaging 18.5 points in the basketball team’s two conference wins last week.
In Tuesday night’s contest at Western New England College in Springfield, Mass., Bashaw went six-for-nine from the field, including four three-pointers, to score a game-high 18 points in 30 minutes of play. He chipped in two assists and one steal to help the team to the 65-52 victory.
Bashaw played a crucial role in the Hawks’ one-point win over visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday afternoon. The 6-2 guard tallied 19 points, just two shy of his season-high registered Nov. 11 against Clark University, including 14 in the second half. He posted a game-high four assists and added one steal with just one turnover.
Bashaw jumpstarted his team in the second half breaking the tie score with a lay-up 12 seconds into the period. A steal on the Leopards’ next possession led to another lay-up and a four-point lead for the Hawks. Bashaw continued his strong play and with his final bucket on the night, tied the score at 79-79 to help lead his team to the ultimate 85-84 victory.
Bashaw currently ranks second on the Hawks with a 12.0 scoring average in 15 games. He is second on the team in field-goal percentage (.476), third in steals (11) and fourth in assists (26).
The Hawks return to action Wednesday when they travel to Gordon College for another conference contest. Tip-off is 8 p.m.
