BRISTOL, R.I. – Senior Claire Halliday (Trenton, N.J.) of the Roger Williams University Women’s Lacrosse team has been named The Commonwealth Coast Conference Offensive Lacrosse Player of the Week and the RWU Female Athlete of the Week after establishing a new program record for most points scored in a career.
Entering the team’s season opener, Halliday was tied with alumna Jackie Criss as the all-time leading scorer in RWU history with 219 points. Facing a strong Wellesley team at Wellesley, Halliday scored the game’s first goal at 27:06 to set the new RWU record. She finished the game with a team-high four goals, but the Cardinals won in the end, 11-6.
Halliday continued her strong play in the team’s second game of the week, travelling to Eastern Connecticut State Friday afternoon. Though down 6-5 at halftime, Halliday scored three of her four goals in the second half and assisted on another to help the Hawks to the eventual 16-10 victory. She finished the game with a team-high seven points while also grabbing a team-high six draw controls.
After another road victory Monday over Lycoming College, Halliday currently stands with 11 goals and three assists for 14 points this season, bringing her career points-total to 233 points on 171 goals and 62 assists. She and the team continue their road trip Saturday travelling up to Biddeford, Maine to face TCCC opponent University of New England beginning at 12 Noon.
