BRISTOL, R.I. – Kelly Stannard (Salem, Conn.) and Cy Thompson (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands) have been selected as the Roger Williams University Male and Female Athlete of the Week after helping the team finish third at the ICSA Coed Dinghy Western Semifinals in Long Beach, Calif. and qualifying the team for Nationals.
At the ICSA Coed Dinghy Semifinals, 36 teams came out from across the country to race, where the Hawks competed in the Western Semifinals. Stannard and Thompson competed in the A Division in the regatta, finishing in a tie with Yale University for first place with 55 points. Stannard and Thompson finished in the top-two spots five times over the weekend, with two first-place finishes and three second-place spots three different times.
The team finished in third overall for the regatta, and will be heading to the ICSA Coed Dinghy Nationals in Oregon at the end of the month.
Stannard, Thompson, and the RWU sailing team will be competing next weekend in Hanover, N.H. in the Fowle Trophy hosted by Dartmouth College.
