BRISTOL, R.I.- Junior Jill Mackey (Redding, Conn.) was named Roger Williams University Female Athlete of the Week Monday after recording four first-place finishes and establishing a new RWU record in the team’s two events last week.
Wednesday the Hawks looked to remain undefeated in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, facing Gordon College on the road. Mackey was one of two Hawks to win two individual races, posting a time of 27.62 in the 50-yard freestyle and 1:10.92 in the 100 IM. RWU defeated Gordon by the score of 165-84.
The Hawks hosted Little East Conference member Eastern Connecticut State, Saturday. Mackey again took first-place in the 50 free – this time breaking her previous school record of 26.50 with a new time of 26.28. Mackey was also a member of the first-place 200-yard medley relay team, posting a time of 2:02.94.
“Jill Mackey has matured a lot as a swimmer this year,” assistant coach Michelle Kellerman said. “She is a strong competitor with a real desire to win.”
Mackey and the Hawks look to finish strong in their final meet of the year, the New England Championships, Feb. 15-17, held at UMass-Dartmouth.
