BRISTOL, R.I.- Junior James Lydon (Calverton, N.Y.) was named RWU Male Athlete of the Week after his strong showing on the mound last week, pitching in two conference wins for the Hawks baseball team.

In Wednesday’s start, Lydon faced the defending TCCC champion Curry Colonials on the road. Curry entered the game tied with RWU for first place in the standings – both boasting an unblemished 2008 conference record.

When the dust settled, Lydon had pitched seven innings of three-hit shutout baseball and was the first TCCC pitcher to hand Curry a loss this season. He surrendered just one unearned run in the 3-1 victory, walking just one and striking out two.  The win improves Lydon’s record to 4-0 this season.

Later in the week Lydon added another hitless inning out of the bullpen in a win over TCCC foe Colby-Sawyer, striking out two.

The Hawks remain tied with Curry for first place in The Commonwealth Coast Conference with an 11-1 record (19-8 overall). They are next in action Tuesday, hosting Eastern Nazarene College at 2 p.m.
