BRISTOL, R.I.- Freshman Laurin Pendleton (Soutwick, Mass.) was named RWU Female Athlete of the Week Monday after scoring two goals last week in the Hawks’ two playoff victories, including the game-winning goal in the Hawks 1-0 defeat of Endicott for the TCCC Championship.
The striker began the week notching one goal in the team’s 3-2 double-overtime victory over the University of New England, Tuesday, in The Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinals. The win propelled RWU into its third-straight Finals appearance.
In Saturday’s Championship game at top-seed Endicott College, Pendleton ended any thoughts of overtime, heading home the game-winning goal with just 19 seconds remaining in regulation to give RWU the 1-0 win and its first-ever trip to the NCAA National Tournament.
Pendleton leads RWU with 13 goals on a team-high 92 shots this season, totaling a team-best 30 points. She is also the only Hawk to tally a goal on a penalty kick this season.
The Hawks continue their season Saturday, traveling to Ithaca College to face the University of Rochester in the first round of the NCAA National Tournament.
