BRISTOL, R.I.-Junior runner Kevin Clark and sophomore Emily Tran were named RWU Male and Female Athlete of the Week after they both led their respective cross country teams to TCCC Championships over the weekend. Both also earned TCCC Runner of the Year.
Clark finished first in Saturday’s TCCC Championship, helping his team to their seventh straight title. The Feeding Hills, Mass., native posted a time of 27:14 in the 8,000 meter race – a solid 43 seconds ahead of the next finisher, teammate and runner-up Alex Parulis (East Lyme, Conn.). After an outstanding finish to an outstanding season, Clark earned his second-consecutive TCCC Runner of the Year title.
Sophomore Emily Tran improved on her freshman-year TCCC runner-up performance and ran to a first-place finish in Saturday’s TCCC Championship. The Sharon, Mass., native recorded an impressive time of 24:29 on the 6,000 meter course. Last year Tran was named TCCC Rookie of the Year and this year garnered top honors as TCCC Runner of the Year.
Clark and Tran look to continue their strong seasons, leading their teams into the NCAA Division III New England Regional meet, Nov. 10, in New London, Conn.
