BRISTOL, R.I.- Sophomore Cy Thompson (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands) was named RWU Male Athlete of the Week after his outstanding showing over the weekend at the Atlantic Coast Dinghy Championship.
Sailing in difficult conditions Sunday, including rain and snow, the 6-1 skipper along with crew Emerald Epke (Tiverton, R.I.) sailed to a second-place finish in B Division, just two points behind Harvard. In the five races, the duo placed first, fifth, second and twice placed eighth.
The team’s 24-point total combined with the A Division’s 43 points propelled RWU into second place overall among the 18 teams in the field – 15 of whom were ranked nationally in the top-20.
The ACC Championships concluded Thompson and the sailing team’s fall season. The 2008 NEISA scheduling meeting will be held Dec. 6 at MIT to determine the spring 2009 schedule.
