BRISTOL, R.I.- Freshman Tony Verrochi (Norwood, Mass.) was named Roger Williams University Male Athlete of the Week Monday after his outstanding play, including an eight-game hitting streak, in the baseball team’s 7-1 performance last week.

 

Verrochi totaled 14 hits in the eight games last week, including five games with multiple hits. The outfielder also registered two doubles, a triple and a home run. He finished the week with a .500 batting average and an .800 slugging percentage.

 

The team’s first batter in the lineup had a .600 on-base percentage and proceeded to steal three bases. He scored five runs and also batted in seven helping the Hawks to outscore their opponents, 57-23.

 

For the season Verrochi boasts a .363 batting average and is tied for the team lead with 32 runs scored. He also leads the team with a .511 on-base percentage.

 

Verrochi and the Hawks return to action Wednesday, hosting Salve Regina University in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
