DJ Hunter's goal leads to Hawk win

Mens Soccer takes over first in TCCC with win

BRISTOL, R.I. – Two early goals by the Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team held up as RWU assumes first place in the Commonwealth Coast Conference from Gordon College after defeating the Fighting Scots by a 2-1 score Saturday afternoon.

DJ Hunter (Middletown, Conn.) converted a strategically placed through-ball from Kevin Canty (Proctor, Vt.) in the game's ninth minute into his third goal of the year. Antoine Bell (Bordeaux, France) would later add to the Hawks' lead with a one-time timer in the 19th minute for his 12th goal of the year, giving RWU a 2-0 lead.

Gordon cut the deficit in half in the 29th minute when David McMullen (Silver Lake, Ohio) bent a corner kick around the Hawk defense for his third goal of the year. Unfortunately for the Fighting Scots, that would be their only goal scored as timely goalkeeping and tough defense held up the 2-1 Hawk advantage.

Hunter and Brandon O'Donovan (Coram, N.Y.) each assisted on Bell's goal, while Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) made three saves in the game for his fourth win of the year.

Gordon's Brian Schilling (Goffstown, N.H.) made two saves for the Fighting Scots.

Roger Williams (8-6-1, 8-1-1 TCCC) heads down the road for an intrastate matchup against Salve Regina University Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
