Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team played to a scoreless stalemate against Gordon College Saturday afternoon, as the CCC game slated to determine second place in the conference ended in a 0-0 tie.
The Hawks will finish the day no worse than third place in the conference. A loss by Endicott College will push the Hawks up to second place.
Defense was the key to the game for both squads, as the Hawks held the Fighting Scots to nine shots in the double-overtime game.
Taryn Mancarella (Rochester, N.Y.), Ashley Steenbruggen (Peabody, Mass.), and
Allison Powers (North Yarmouth, Maine) played all 110 minutes of the game, keeping the Fighting Scots' offense at bay.
Gordon played equally impressive on the opposite side of the ball, with Abby Ytzen making five saves on the Hawks' 17 shots on the day.
Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.) and
Jenny Schermerhorn (Sherborn, Mass.) combined for the shutout, with Schermerhorn making all five of RWU's saves in 65 minutes of action.
Caitlin Mayo (Merrimack, N.H.) and
Amanda daCunha (Wethersfield, Conn.) each took five shots for RWU, while Lauren Enright (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Amy Colwill (Wheaton, Ill.), and Kiersten Hess (Santa Barbara, Calif.) had two shots apiece.
Roger Williams (11-3-1, 8-2-1 TCCC) will have five days to rest before taking on Salve Regina University Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
