Volleyball milestone reached in loss

NEWPORT, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball fell just short of its two-game comeback, losing a five-game match to Salve Regina University Tuesday evening by the scores 30-32, 30-18, 30-25, 28-30, 15-9.

In the loss, senior Amy Maurer (Madbury, N.H.) reached a plateau that only one other player in Hawk history has reached. Maurer's 13 kills on the night give her 1,010 career kills, making her the second player in school history to have reached the 1,000-kill plateau. She needs only seven more kills to break the school record of 1,016, held by Erin Carolan.

Brittany Sullivan (Nashua, N.H.) had a double-double on the night with 10 kills, 13 digs, along with service aces. Caryn Lecca (Ludlow, Mass.) handed out 30 assists, while Leah Quast (Edgewood, Ky.) made a game-high 22 digs.

Salve Regina's Deanna Salter led all players with 15 kills, while Amanda Harmon and Natalie Rubenoff each had four service aces.

Roger Williams (9-7, 4-3 TCCC) will take part in the Springfield College Invitational Friday afternoon, taking on Western Connecticut College first at 4:30 p.m.
