Volleyball drops a pair at Coast Guard tri-match

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball took two losses at the Coast Guard Academy tri-match Saturday afternoon, falling to Wesleyan University 3-0, then to Coast Guard by the same score.
 
The Hawks played Wesleyan very closely in the first game of the, but was unable to come away with the win, losing 26-30. The second game saw the Hawks give a similarly strong effort, but ended with the same result, this time a 27-30 loss. In the third game, the Cardinals held down the Hawk offense to a greater scale than the previous two games, defeating RWU 21-30 en route to the victory.
 
In the second match of the day, the Hawks had a more difficult time generating offense against Coast Guard than in the previous match. Coast Guard took the first time games by scores of 30-11 and 30-13, respectively. The third and final game saw a more productive offensive output by the Hawks, but the team could not extend the match falling 26-30.
 
Against Coast Guard, Amy Maurer (Madbury, N.H.) had seven kills while hitting .538 in the match. Kristina Dolan (Glenmont, N.Y.) and Rebekah Dion (Old Saybrook, Conn.) added six and five kills, respectively. Eileen O'Leary led the Hawks with 13 digs.
 
Roger Williams (16-12) will host Pine Manor College Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m.
