Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team could not pull out a victory in its last game before the beginning of the TCCC Championship, as the Hawks fell to Brandeis University Tuesday afternoon by the score 3-1.
Amanda daCunha (Wethersfield, Conn.) gave RWU an early 1-0 lead 16:30 into the game, taking a
Carey Baldwin (West Hartford, Conn.) pass and booting a long shot from the right side into the left corner of the goal. The Hawks maintained the advantage throughout the remainder of the half until Sarah Jasek (Middletown, N.J.) knotted the game with only 2:29 left in the period, heading a cross just over the head of
Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.).
The Judges quickly gained the lead in the opening of the second half, as Sofia Vallone (Westport, Conn.) headed a goal of her own less than two minutes into the period. Brandeis found one last opportunity to score in the 72
nd minute, when Jasek fired a shot to the left side of the net that trickled in after
Jenny Schermerhorn (Sherborn, Mass.) got a hand on the ball.
The Judge offense kept a steady attack on RWU throughout the game, with Brandeis finishing the game with a 33-9 advantage in shots. Garside made five saves for RWU during her play in the first half, while Schermerhorn had 10 saves in the second period.
Brandeis's Hillary Rosenzweig (Boca Raton, Fla.) made three stops in the game, getting her eighth win of the year. Melissa Gorenkoff (Woodbury, N.Y.) and Kelly Cozzens (Lancaster, Mass.) each had an assist for the Judges.
Roger Williams (13-4-1) will host the quarterfinals of the TCCC Tournament Saturday afternoon against a opponent to be determined.
