Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – After a 7-2 win over Salve Regina University Friday afternoon, the Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team comes one step closer to capturing consecutive TCCC crowns.
The Hawks' win came after a two-day delay in playing the match due to unfavorable weather and playing conditions. With the forecast consisting of slightly gray skies and a cool wind, the two teams squared away with a trip to the TCCC Championship on the line.
RWU came away with wins at all three doubles flights, as the Hawks took an early 3-0 lead.
Caitlyn Leone (Irvington, N.Y.) and
Jessica Manners (East Longmeadow, Mass.) came away with the 8-2 victory over Heather Fox (Marblehead, Mass.) and Louise Taylor (Yarmouth, Maine), while
Leah Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) and
Joanna Nettelfield (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) defeated Jessica Smith (Bristol, Conn.) and Jessica Timpano (Glastonbury, Conn.).
Haley McCraven (Ipswich, Mass.) and
Kelsey Parente (Barkhamsted, Conn.) completed the doubles sweep for RWU, beating Stefi Carrell (Stowe, Vt.) and Andrea Dell'Accio (West Islip, N.Y.) by an 8-4 score.
In singles play, RWU got wins at the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth flights. Leone's 6-1, 6-1 victory over Fox extended her #2 winning streak to six games. McCraven picked up her first #6 singles win since October 6, beating Erin Higgins (Glens Falls, N.Y.) 6-1, 6-3.
Roger Williams (13-1, 10-0 TCCC) will host Endicott College Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the TCCC Championship with an NCAA Tournament berth on the line.
