BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Soccer team took an early lead against Curry College and never relinquished it, as the Hawks defeated Curry Saturday afternoon in the TCCC Quarterfinals by a 2-0 margin.
A wet and slippery field made it difficult for both teams to get solid footing throughout a majority of the game. The slick grass did provide for an advantage for the Hawks in their first goal.
Brandon O'Donovan (Coram, N.Y.) wedged a long thru ball between two Curry defenders, finding
DJ Hunter (Middletown, Conn.) who converted the pass into his sixth goal of the year and RWU's first score of the day in the 13
th minute.
The Hawks would later add to the lead in the 38
th minute, when
Dan Saccoccio (Holtsville, N.Y.) took advantage of a free kick from a caution, launching a long shot that found its way into the left corner of the net for his sixth score this season.
Peter Plate (Commack, N.Y.) stopped two shots for the Hawks in the win, getting his second shutout of the year. His counterpart, Curry's Clark Zelazo (Palmer, Mass.), made five saves of his own.
Roger Williams (11-6-2, 9-1-2 TCCC) will host Wentworth Institute of Technology, who defeated New England College 3-0 earlier in the day, Tuesday afternoon in the TCCC Semifinals.
