Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – For the second straight season, the Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team has captured The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship with its 9-0 win over Endicott College Sunday afternoon.
The Hawks' run to the championship came in a wave of success throughout the year. After dropping their first match of the year, the Hawks rode off 14 straight wins, while going undefeated in TCCC play with a perfect 10-0 record en route to the conference championship.
RWU swept its three doubles matches, with
Caitlyn Leone (Irvington, N.Y.) and
Jessica Manners (East Longmeadow, Mass.) winning 8-3 over Nicole Breting and Lori Wardner.
Joanna Nettelfield (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and
Leah Ribchinsky (Ivoryton, Conn.) paired up in the number two flight, defeating Kate Fiske and Jenna Carme by an 8-3 margin. In the number three flight,
Haley McCraven (Ipswich, Mass.) and
Kelsey Parente (Barkhamsted, Conn.) won 8-1 over Alyson Boehm and Rachael Layton.
In singles play, Manners got a 6-4, 6-4 win over Breting in the first flight, while Leone sailed to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Wardner in the second flight. Ribchinsky came away with the 6-2, 6-4 win, defeating Fiske in #3 singles. Nettelfield improved to 10-1 in number four singles, going 6-2, 6-1 over Carme, with Parente moving to 9-1 in number five singles after defeating Boehm 6-1, 6-1. McCraven rounded out the singles play, not dropping a set in her 6-0, 6-0 win over Genevieve Sherman.
Roger Williams finishes the regular season with a record of 14-1 and a 10-0 TCCC record.
