Volleyball advances to TCCC Semis with win over UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine- Roger Williams pulled out its third win of the season against the University of New England, this time in TCCC quarterfinal action on the road facing the No. 4 seed Nor'Easters.  The Hawks won 3-1 and advance to play top seed Endicott in Thursday's semifinal match.

Trailing 12-11 in the first game, the Hawks turned the game around and led by as many as eight points before winning 30-26.  UNE came right back in game two, winning 30-26.  Yet the Hawks would not be outdone, as they claimed game three 30-22 and game four, 30-26. 

Leading the way for the Hawks' offense was sophomore Kristina Dolan (Glenmont, N.Y.) who recorded a match-high 14 kills.  Freshman Rebekah Dion added 11 kills, with zero errors on 17 attempts.  Dion also contributed five blocks on the night.

Junior Kirsten Bosworth (Centerville, Mass.) handed out 40 assists and also recorded 5 service aces.  On defense, freshman Eileen O'Leary (Southington, Conn.) led the Hawks with 21 digs.

"It was really a solid win for us" said Head Coach Bret Stothart.  "We're looking forward to the match with Endicott on Thursday" he added.

Roger Williams will face off with the Gulls of Endicott at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in Beverly, Mass.  The Gulls knocked out Eastern Nazarene 3-1 in their TCCC opening round match.
