SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team comes one step closer to a TCCC Championship with a 1-0 win over Western New England College Wednesday afternoon in the TCCC Semifinal round.

 

Taryn Mancarella (Rochester, N.Y.) erased a scoreless tie between both teams when she knocked in a Amanda daCunha (Wethersfield, Conn.) corner in the 35^th minute to give the Hawks the one-goal advantage. The score served as only the second goal of the season for the reigning TCCC Rookie of the Week.

 

Jen Garside (Londonderry, N.H.) picked up the postseason win, making two saves for the Hawks in the victory. Jessica Covino (Bristol, Conn.) had three saves for Western New England in the loss.

 

After having reached the conference championship game in each of the last two seasons, the Hawks will look to make the third time a charm, bringing home the title and earning the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

 

Roger Williams (15-4-1) will take on either top-seeded Endicott College or fifth-seeded Gordon College Saturday afternoon in the conference championship. If Endicott wins its meeting with Gordon, the Hawks will be on the road at Beverly, Massachusetts. If Gordon can pull off the upset, RWU will host the Fighting Scots this weekend.
