Women’s Tennis Downed in NCAA Tournament

Bristol, RI- The RWU women’s tennis team (14-4), competing in the program’s first NCAA Tournament, fell, 5-2, to Skidmore College (11-7), Friday at Tufts University. It marks Skidmore’s 11th appearance in the tournament, including a 1998 national championship.

Skidmore moves on to face second-ranked Williams College Saturday at Tufts.

After falling 8-5 in both the #1 and #2 matches, the Hawks earned a point with the team of sophomore Meghan Cornell (Clifton Park, NY) and junior Joanna Nettlefield (Yorktown, NY) and their 8-1 win in #3 doubles.

In singles play, Hawks junior Kelsey Parente (Barkhamsted, CT) won the #6 match, but it’s the only point RWU would add, as Skidmore won the #2, #4 and #5 singles matches to clinch the win. The #1 and #3 matches were not completed once the winning team was decided.
