Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – A long scoreless stretch by the Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team in the closing minutes helped push Salve Regina University past RWU, as the Hawks fell 52-60 Thursday evening in a non-conference matchup.
Trailing 52-49 with 7:36 to play, the Seahawks closed out the game on an 11-0 run to secure the victory.
Salve Regina opened the game on a 12-4 run and never looked back in the first half. The Seahawks lead the opening period wire-to-wire, taking a 33-26 lead into the second frame.
Facing the seven point deficit to begin the second half, RWU scored the first nine points in the first two minutes to take a 36-33 lead, its first of the game. From the point, both teams traded buckets over a long seven-minute stretch, highlighted by seven lead changes and three ties.
Holding a 50-49 advantage with 8:01 to play,
Casey Anderson (Cohasset, Mass.) sank a jumper at the 7:36 mark, which would ultimately end up being the Hawks' last score of the game. RWU missed its final 11 shots from the field, giving way to 11 straight points for the Seahawks and the win.
Anderson finished with 11 points and six rebounds, while
Caitlin McNabb (Springfield, Mass.) scored nine points and grabbed seven boards off the bench.
Salve Regina's Kristen Stone (West Roxbury, Mass.) scored a game-high 20 points with nine rebounds. Allegra Lovoy (Charlestown, R.I.) finished with 16 points and four steals.
Roger Williams (4-6) will open TCCC play Saturday against Nichols College at 1:00 p.m., while Salve Regina (5-5) also plays its first conference game of the year, hosting Anna Maria College Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
